Yes, it is possible to send free SMS from your Android phone. No, we are not talking about Viber, Whatsapp or Kik. We are talking about an actual SMS. I have googled for apps, and all I could find was the kind where you need to install apps on receiver’s phone as well.

Fed up with such posts, here I have made a list of top android apps to Send Free SMS wherein, the receiver does not need to install any app on their phone. You will of course need data connection or WiFi on your phone, for which you will be charged, but there’s no extra cost for sending the text!

biNu is the best app to send free international messages. It supports much more countries than other apps do, and also lets you send unlimited messages. There’s two ways you can use biNu : By using Premium Credits or For Free.

Every user is awarded 5 premium credits each week. If you use premium credits, your message won’t contain any signature of biNu. But, if you use free SMS, a link pointing to will be put at the end of the message.

To send an SMS :

Go to Messenger > Send Message > SMS.

Select SMS Premium to send premium and SMS free for free SMS.

As mentioned earlier, biNu lets you send unlimited  messages. If while going to SMS Free, you see a notice to try again later, just return to the menu and then again go to the SMS Free option. Keep on trying until you finally succeed.

The receiver will see your own phone number on the message. So, if he decides to reply, he knows who you are.

The only problem I find with biNu is its interface. It’s not appealing to the senses.

TextFree is the SMS app developed by the guys at Pinger. It provides you with your own US phone number which can be used to send and receive unlimited text messages for free.

It supports only 36 countries at the moment : Antigua and Barbuda, El Salvador, Paraguay, Argentina, Faroe Islands, Peru, Azerbaijan, Grenada, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Guam, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Barbados, Guatemala, Saint Lucia, Belize, Honduras, Taiwan, Province of China, Bermuda, Hungary, Trinidad and Tobago, British Virgin Island, India (limited carriers), Turkmenistan, Canada, Jamaica, Turks and Caicos Islands, Cayman Islands, Nicaragua, United Arab Emirates, Colombia, Northern Mariana Islands, Uruguay, Panama, Venezuela and United States of America.

Also, it does not put any kind of signature or link on your text messages.

If you are not from US, you might not be able to find the TextFree app on Google Play Store. In that case, you can get the apk from here.

HeyWire is similar to TextFree; it provides you with your own US phone number which you can use to send and receive SMS. It supports 45 countries, which is rather more than what TextFree supports.

You can send text and picture messages to these countries : United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Peru, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominica, St. Lucia, Sint Maarten, Northern Mariana Islands, Monserrat, Turks and Caicos Islands, Grenada, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, United States Virgin Islands (USVI), British Virgin Islands (BVI), Antigua, Barbuda, Anguilla, Barbados, The Bahamas, Aruba, Curacao, Bonaire, Uruguay, Suriname, Paraguay, Ecuador, Guyana, Bolivia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Belize, Venezuela, Colombia.

With 24SMS you can send Free Unlimited SMS to over 150 countries. The app does not require any registration.

However, it seems like there are a lot of bugs in this app. You might receive a notification saying you’re not connected to internet. Wait for a while and the notification should stop popping out. Also, the application is very slow and might hang without your doing anything at all.

Google Voice

Google Voice is available in US only. It lets you have your own virtual US number which can be used to send and receive messages for free. At this moment, you can send free SMS to US numbers only.

  • textPlus : SMS to 10 digit US and Canadian numbers for free.
